THE TEAM NEWS

KINGS XI PUNJAB

  • It has been a mixed start for Kings XI Punjab as they have lost two matches and won just the one, but they have impressed in both of their losses when each one could easily have been victories for KL Rahul’s side.
  • Despite the loss last time out, there will be no kneejerk reactions and they are comfortable with the way in which they are performing right now so they will likely name the same line-up to face Mumbai Indians here.
  • KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal have been the standout opening batsmen in the tournament so far with over 200 runs each in their opening three games but that could leave to their middle order being a little under-cooked.

MUMBAI INDIANS

  • Mumbai Indians lost in a Super Over to Royal Challengers Bangalore last time out but that was incredibly harsh on them after a sensational run chase saw them end on level scores with RCB’s 201.
  • They will take plenty of positives from that match especially their middle order with Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard in stunning form but they will be looking for others to step up now in both batting and bowling departments.
  • Despite not really managing to string together a complete performance in the tournament so far, they have to be relatively happy with their line-up and the one position of doubt if James Pattinson with compatriot Nathan Coulter-Nile close to full fitness.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams have only managed one win in their opening two games but could easily have won more than that having lost some incredibly close matches. Kings XI’s big advantage is the form of their openers and they have been able to lay the foundations for some good performances. This match could very well come down to the opening batsmen and the bowling units as Cottrell and Shami have arguably been better than Boult and Bumrah in the tournament thus far. There really is little to choose between these two sides but Kings XI’s top order and bowling unit just edges the Indians’ in form right now.
