THE TEAM NEWS

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies now have it all to do to win the series after the tourists turned things around with back-to-back successes, although they will need to pick themselves up following their devastatingly close defeat in the third game.
  • A great response from the Windies bowling attack late in the innings helped to prevent the South Africans from scoring more than the 167 they managed with Obed McCoy coming to the fore with figures of 4-22.
  • The hosts looked in control at 90/2 halfway through their innings but they somehow failed to reach their target as they fell to a one-run defeat which must go down as a huge failure on their part with none of their batsmen able to reach the 30s.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa responded to a disappointing end to their innings with the bat as they produced a superb comeback with the ball to turn the series on its head and move to within a solitary victory of sealing a series success.
  • Having reached 147/3 with three overs to spare, the tourists looked well-set to let rip to end their innings but they lost five wickets from that point on, amassing just a further 20 runs in the process.
  • The Windies then got off to a strong start with the bat and looked to have complete control of the match until some fine bowling efforts, led by Tabriaz Shamsi who completed his four overs with figures of 2-13 and ultimately resulted in his side snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

THE PREDICTION

South Africa showed some real character to earn the victory in the third T20i of the series with West Indies and they are now in a strong position to secure the series itself. The hosts will feel that they should have won having worked their way into a dominant position during the third game but they could not capitalise. They must now win the series the hard way from behind but after a couple of disappointing results, they are likely to be extremely focused and they can at least ensure that the series needs the deciding clash to confirm the victor.
