WEST INDIES
- West Indies will have been very disappointed at failing to chase down 167 in their second T20i against South Africa, after losing nine wickets for just 150 runs in their innings to lose by 16 runs.
- Opener Andre Fletcher top scored with 35 and despite an incredible cameo down the order from Fabian Allen who smashed 34 from just 12 balls after hitting five sixes, it wasn’t enough to save Kieran Pollard’s side from defeat.
- One plus point for West Indies was the performance of their young bowlers Kevin Sinclair and Obed McCoy, who both took wickets whilst maintaining a low economy rate and both are expected to play once again here.
SOUTH AFRICA
- Victory for South Africa in the second T20i will have been a huge confidence boost for Temba Bavuma’s men against a very strong West Indian team, in particular their penchant for taking regular wickets to restrict the hosts’ run chase.
- Bavuma led the way with bat, top scoring for the Proteas with 46 runs before the bowlers went on to shine, as all five players utilised with the ball picked up at least one wicket with left-arm spin bowler George Linde recording figures of just 2-19 from his four overs.
- South Africa named an unchanged side for the second T20i and following their win, it would be no surprise if they do the same again in this match, although the likes of Wiaan Mulder and Andile Phehlukwayo will be hoping for an opportunity to play.
THE PREDICTION
With the series level at 1-1, all is to play for heading into the third of five T20 internationals between these two sides. The West Indies top order is expected to bounce back following their collapse in the previous match and South Africa’s bowling attack will need to be at their best if the firepower of Chris Gayle, Nicolas Pooran, Kieran Pollard and Andre Russell are all to fail with the bat once again. It only takes one of these players to fire and West Indies will be able to put up a very high score. Therefore, the likelihood is that lightning won’t strike twice and the Windies should perform far better with the bat in this third match, ultimately picking up victory.
