WEST INDIES
- After losing by a margin of just 13 runs in the first T20i, it got far worse for West Indies against New Zealand on Friday as they were thrashed by a 90-run margin, which leaves them 0-2 down and the series already lost with a game to spare.
- The batting of the Windies was particularly woeful, with the top four all being dismissed for single-figure scores and changes are likely to be made ahead of this final T20i, which could see the likes of Kyle Mayers and Devon Thomas replaced.
- Conditions in the second T20i became more spin-friendly as the contest wore on and the temptation will be for West Indies to add another spin-bowler into their side once they’ve examined the pitch that will be used on Sunday.
NEW ZEALAND
- The Black Caps’ 90-run triumph last time out was arguably their most impressive all-round performance across the past couple of months which has seen them unable to stop winning in limited overs cricket.
- New Zealand’s spin-bowlers dominated the Windies batting line-up, but not before the Kiwi batters had feasted on the home bowling attack, with Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell particularly destructive, the former scoring 76 from just 41 deliveries.
- Although New Zealand are safe in the knowledge that the series is won, they’ll be taking this dead rubber extremely serious as they continue to build up towards the T20 World Cup and it would be no surprise if an unchanged team was named.
THE PREDICTION
New Zealand only appear to be getting better, whilst West Indies have gone in the opposite direction, leading to this series being decided after just two games. The Black Caps resemble somewhat of a runaway train at present and it’s very difficult to see just how West Indies will go about derailing them. Clearly the hosts are low on confidence, but simply haven’t shown enough quality with bat or ball to overcome their opponents and this is unlikely to change whilst New Zealand are playing so well. Back the tourists to secure a 0-3 sweep.
