WEST INDIES
- West Indies will need to significantly improve on their performance last Friday, which saw their batting relentlessly strangled by India, ultimately meekly stumbling to just 122/8 chasing 191 to win.
- The expectation is that batter Brandon King will come into the side after missing the first T20i due to a visa issue, as should Romario Shepherd and the presence of both players will strengthen the Windies.
- Spin-bowler Hayden Walsh Jr could be given a chance in place of a fast bowler such as Keemo Paul or Odean Smith if West Indies wish to mix up their bowling unit to try and counter India’s strong batting line-up.
INDIA
- India went heavy on spin-bowling across the first T20i and it paid off handsomely for them, this after accruing a big score of 190/6 batting first with captain Rohit Sharma leading the charge by scoring 64.
- The experienced Dinesh Karthik took the opportunity to remind his skipper of his abilities as a ‘finisher’, smashing 41 runs from just 19 balls batting at number seven to help boost the tourists to an ultimately insurmountable target, so expect him to keep his spot here.
- Playing on a different ground which may require more pace bowling options rather than spin, it would be no surprise to see Harshal Patel play ahead of one of India’s three spinners utilised in Tarouba.
THE PREDICTION
With the likes of Shepherd and King back in the West Indies side for this second match of the series, the margin between these two nations certainly should not be as vast as it was last time out. The pitch not proving as productive for spin will also likely work to the benefit of Nicholas Pooran’s side. Despite that however, this is a fantastic India squad who will put out a formidable XI capable of coping and thriving on any sort of pitch in any sort of conditions. Expect Rohit’s men to back up their victory on Friday by triumphing once again, this time in Basseterre.
