THE TEAM NEWS

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan sealed the T20 series with a comprehensive win in the second T20 international on Sunday as they restricted the visitors to a below-par 134/7 and then comfortably knocked the total off with 4.5 overs and eight wickets to spare.
  • With the series in the bag, they may rotate their team for this final match of Zimbabwe’s tour although they will be desperate to avoid defeat like the ODI series where they lost the final match.
  • With Shadab Khan unlikely to recover from injury in time, Usman Qadir could keep his place after an exceptional performance on Sunday although Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Musa could all rotate into the side.

ZIMBABWE

  • Zimbabwe fell pretty short of pushing Pakistan in the second T20 match as their total when batting first was never going to be enough and they along with the hosts will likely want to see the tourists chase a total in this third and final game.
  • This match will be Elton Chigumbura final game in Zimbabwe colours as the veteran has announced he will retire from international cricket after this game and he will want to go out on a high note if possible.
  • Despite the series gone and there being nothing but pride to play for here, they are unlikely to make many changes and weaken their side much and they continue to rely heavily on their experienced batsmen like Taylor and Williams if they are to post a competitive score.

THE PREDICTION

Pakistan sealed the series on Sunday but they will be desperate to avoid what happened in the ODI series where they lost the third game by sealing a whitewash here. The gulf in quality has been more pronounced in the T20s compared to the ODIs and it is hard to see Zimbabwe even coming close in this final game unless Pakistan really do ease off the gas. That upset in the third ODI will serve as a warning sign for them that they cannot be complacent and that should be sufficient to motivate them here. Both teams may be keen to change it around and have Zimbabwe chase in this final game but the outcome will be the same and expect another comprehensive victory for the hosts.
