THE TEAM NEWS

OMAN

  • Oman have shown plenty of quality in T20 international cricket and now they get a free shot at one of the big boys as they take on Sri Lanka in a T20 World Cup warm-up game.
  • Despite performing well in their last outings, this is a huge step up in class for Oman having beaten the likes of Nepal and the Netherlands in their last two matches while they also claimed the scalp of Ireland prior to that.
  • It is with the ball where they look the most potent and they will believe they have the weapons to cause the Sri Lankans some problems when they are at the crease but their lack of action since 2019 will be a concern.

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka suffered a 3-0 series whitewash last time out against South Africa and this now becomes an important series for them as they bid to find some form ahead of the quickly-approaching T20 World Cup.
  • The Sri Lankans were comprehensively beaten in all three of those games with their bowling unit struggling to restrict the Proteas, although their efforts with the bat were also short of where they needed to be.
  • They will be desperate to win and to win well in this opening game with Oman but they come into the series without Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera as the duo are competing in the Indian Premier League.

THE PREDICTION

Oman will be out to cause a huge upset as they take on Sri Lanka and they will hold no fear against their much superior opponents. The Sri Lankans come into this on the back of three successive losses against South Africa and they were very poor during the entirety of that series. It was far from ideal preparation for the T20 World Cup and they will have to make huge improvements if they want to achieve anything in that tournament. Oman will compete in a T20i match for the first time since 2019 so their lack of match action could prove to be crucial, especially against a team desperate to bounce back and the Sri Lankans should be comfortable victors in this one.
