THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • After going behind by two games to nil against South Africa, India have roared back to draw the series level and their most recent victory was certainly their most dominant, triumphing by 82 runs this past Friday.
  • After being asked to bat first for the fourth consecutive match, the hosts scored 169/6 before restricting South Africa to just 87/9 with stand out performances from ‘finisher’ Dinesh Karthik with the bat and fast bowler Avesh Khan with the ball.
  • Karthik’s role in the lower-middle order has cemented himself back in the international setup and it would be no surprise if he was to play a key role once again in Bangalore, with India likely to remain unchanged.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa never got going with the bat in Rajkot, with the run out of Quinton de Kock setting the tone for what was a showing the Proteas will want to forget in a hurry where their top-scorer Rassie van der Dussen managed just 20.
  • Captain Temba Bavuma was forced to retire after being struck twice and his participation in this fifth T20i is in doubt as a result, which would mean South Africa needing to either select a new opener or push a player up the order.
  • Should Bavuma not play, spin-bowler Keshav Maharaj will captain the side, whilst the tourists also have a decision to make on whether to bring Kagiso Rabada back into the starting line-up.

THE PREDICTION

It takes excellent mental strength to recover from two matches behind when you are being put under the pump, but that is exactly what this Indian side have done and now like the tourists, they are within one victory of winning the series. India's bowling unit have well and truly clicked, whilst a number of their batters have stepped up when needed whether it be one of their top order players such as Ishan Kishan, or a lower order hitter like Karthik. A red-hot atmosphere is expected in Bangalore and the hosts should relish playing in-front of such an audience. Back India to make it three wins in a row against the Proteas, thus sealing the Paytm T20I trophy.
