THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • With the series on the line, India as expected came out firing in the third T20i, thrashing South Africa by 48 runs despite losing the toss after successfully defending a score of 179/5.
  • India resisted the temptation to make changes despite losing the first two games and after providing the perfect response, this starting line-up is expected to be retained going into the fourth T20i.
  • Bowlers Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel starred with seven wickets between them, whilst openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan will each be hoping to build on their performance which saw them both hit half-centuries.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa failed to complete a hat-trick of successful run chases in this series, as they were bowled out for 131 in 19.1 overs chasing 180 to win, meaning they remain one game away from an unassailable lead.
  • Once again, the Proteas were without wicket-keeper-batter Quinton de Kock in the third T20i and he is likely to miss out once again in Rajkot, with Heinrich Klaasen retaining the gloves.
  • Like India, South Africa have done their best to maintain consistency throughout their side across this series so far, but should they wish to rotate the starting line-up, then they have options available particularly within their pace bowling attack.

THE PREDICTION

It will be interesting to see how South Africa bounce back from adversity with the carrot of being one game away from a series victory remaining. However, India looked firmly back to their old selves at home in the third T20i and it’s easy to see them riding that momentum garnered from such a strong all-round performance straight into this match. Whilst the outcome is certainly not expected to be as clear cut as it was this past Tuesday, India’s well-rounded bowling attack will be confident of restricting the Proteas to a score that keeps the hosts in charge of the game whether they be bowling first or second. Therefore, backing an India win should be favoured.
