THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

  • A magnificent bowling performance by India in the opening t20i between these two sides saw them reduced South Africa to 9/5 as the hosts decimated the Proteas top order, eventually restricting them to just 106/8 which proved extremely straightforward to chase down.
  • Both KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav struck half-centuries, but the story was about the bowlers with the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar showing their credentials ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa’s batters will need to significantly improve if they are to stand a chance in this second match after they gave their formidable bowling attack precious little to defend on Wednesday following their nightmare start batting first inside the powerplay.
  • Reeza Hendricks was left out of the side following the return of skipper Temba Bavuma, but could be recalled to the starting XI in a bid to try and inject the top order with some much-needed runs, with Rilee Rossouw most likely to drop out in this case.

THE PREDICTION

The expectation is that South Africa will significantly improve with the bat this time round. However, it’s hard to see them being able to outscore this Indian team who not boasts plenty of match-winners, but also top order players who are all in good form. If one fails, another can be relied upon to pick up the slack whether they are batting first or chasing. South Africa don’t have such firepower and this may lead to another difficult assignment for them. Therefore, back India to make it 2-0 in the series.
