THE TEAM NEWS
ENGLAND
- Unfortunately for England, it was a case of same old story in the second T20i against India as once again they conceded a strong total bowling first before their top order was blown away by the tourists, ultimately leading to a defeat which has now lost them the series.
- The hosts do however have one reason to smile and that was the memorable international debut of fast bowler Richard Gleeson, the 34-year-old Lancashire star picking up the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant for the loss of just 15 runs.
- Gleeson is likely to keep his place in the side following such a performance, whilst both Tymal Mills and Reece Topley will be hoping to come back into the team after they were each dropped following the first T20i.
INDIA
- India continued their incredible T20i winning run, which now stretches to 14 games as they secured this three-match series with another dominant display. After wobbling at 89/5, a crucial innings for 46 not out from Ravindra Jadeja helped drag India to 170/8 off their 20 overs before the bowlers once again stole the show.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the key wicket of Jos Buttler for the second match running and finished with three wickets in total, with five of the six Indian bowlers utilised at Edgbaston picking up at least one scalp of their own.
- Captain Rohit Sharma now has a very tricky decision regarding his team selection at Trent Bridge as he looks to balance giving match time to his best players with giving fringe players a chance to feature and he hinted that changes could be made in his post-match interview.
THE PREDICTION
Regardless of whether Rohit decides to give any of their top stars a rest in this third T20i, India’s bowling stocks are so strong that whatever team they put out will pose a significantly stiff challenge to England’s batting line-up, which has wilted so far across the series. At Trent Bridge the hosts have little excuse not to perform with the ground notorious for its high scores in white ball international cricket. Regardless of whether England or India bat first, expect a big total to be put on the board and backing a 1st innings score of over 177.5 has to be favoured here.
