BANGLADESH
- Bangladesh bounced back well from their defeat in the third T20i against New Zealand, by sealing the series with a hard-fought six-wicket victory after chasing down 94 runs with five balls to spare on yet another nightmare pitch for batters.
- The bowling of the hosts set the tone in the first half of the match with four wickets apiece for Nasum Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman helping to bowl out New Zealand before a calm 43 not out from captain Mahmudullah helped see his side home.
- Despite the series being won, Bangladesh will want to finish on a high as they continue their preparation for the upcoming T20i World Cup, therefore another strong team is expected in this fifth match.
NEW ZEALAND
- The New Zealand batters understandably struggled in the fourth T20i on such a difficult batting track, getting bowled out for 93 and whilst their spin-bowlers did their best to keep them in the contest, ultimately the Black Caps succumbed to defeat.
- Of the four Bangladesh wickets that fell, three came as a result of spin, two from Ajaz Patel and one from Cole McConchie, with a run-out also thrown into the mix, whilst Will Young’s 46 with the bat was a positive to take from the contest.
- Opener Finn Allen will be hoping to bat himself into some form in the fifth and final T20i, as will other New Zealand players hoping to put themselves in the frame for future internationals down the line.
THE PREDICTION
Bangladesh have proven themselves as an extremely strong home team over the course of the last two series they have competed in and victory here would see them secure a second successive 4-1 series win after inflicting the same result upon Australia. Unsurprisingly as the home team, they have utilised conditions to their advantage better than the tourists, who remain without a number of key players. This has been a great learning curve for New Zealand, batting in such tough conditions, but the superior experience and skill of Bangladesh on these pitches has come to the fore and should do again in this final T20i, with the hosts expected to secure victory.
