ZIMBABWE
- Zimbabwe put up a much better fight in the second ODI against Bangladesh, after posting a score of 240/9 after winning the toss and batting, however it still wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers.
- Wesley Madhevere top scored with 56, whilst captain Brendan Taylor made 46 before suffering a bizarre dismissal that saw him hit his own wicket, which ultimately turned out to be a key moment in the game.
- Timycen Maruma’s injury sustained in the first ODI saw him miss the following match and he is likely to be absent once again in the third ODI, with all-rounder Sikandar Raza hoping to keep his place after scoring 30 and picking up a wicket in his six overs bowled last time out.
BANGLADESH
- Bangladesh chased down 241 with just three wickets remaining to secure a series victory away from home and now they turn attentions to completing the sweep
- Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan shone with the ball in the first ODI and played the key role for the tourists once again, this time with the bat after scoring an unbeaten 96 to see his side home with five balls to spare.
- With Cricket World Cup Super League points up for grabs, Bangladesh are not expected to dip in performance levels despite having secured the series and could well name an unchanged side for the third consecutive game.
THE PREDICTION
Whilst the second ODI saw a much closer contest between these two sides, the superior experience of the tourists, along with the class of Shakib proved the difference. Zimbabwe have some bright spots among their team, none more so than bowler Blessing Muzarabani, but have ultimately let themselves down with the bat with no one going on and playing an innings such as Shakib’s this past Sunday. Bangladesh know that dismissing Brendan Taylor before he can rack up a big score will put them in the driving seat once again and when taking into account their superior strength in depth across all areas of their side, the Tigers have to be favoured to seal a series sweep here.
