THE TEAM NEWS
WEST INDIES
- Fresh off the back of winning the T20i series by two matches to nil, West Indies now look to overcome Bangladesh in the 50 over format of the game under Nicholas Pooran, who has made an extremely promising start to his reign as Windies white ball captain.
- Players such as fast bowler Jayden Seales and batter Keacy Carty, each of whom were not in the T20i squad could come into the side here whilst left-arm spin-bowler Gudakesh Motie has been called up to the squad.
BANGLADESH
- Bangladesh were outplayed across the T20i matches against West Indies and another tricky assignment awaits for them, an assignment made even harder by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan missing the series.
- In better news for the Tigers, opener and ODI captain Tamim Iqbal returns to the fold and will be hoping for a profitable series here with the bat, with runs a problem for Bangladesh so far in the West Indies.
THE PREDICTION
Momentum can prove an extremely powerful tool in cricket and following their dominant performances over the course of the T20i series, it’s hard not to see West Indies carrying that through into this first ODI. So far, conditions have served to benefit them and their superior batting depth have comfortably outperformed their opponents and whilst the 50 over format should see an improvement from Bangladesh, West Indies should still wind up too strong for them here. Back the hosts to take victory in the opening ODI.
