THE TEAM NEWS
SRI LANKA
- Whilst Sri Lanka accrued 275/9 batting first which was their highest total of the ODI series so far, once again it proved in vain as India chased it down with 5 deliveries remaining.
- Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka each managed half centuries, whilst Wanindu Hasaranga once again showed why he could be a limited overs star of the future with three wickets for the loss of only 37 runs from his ten overs, although he is set to miss out here after suffering an injury.
- Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka, all remain suspended for Sri Lanka heading into the final ODI of the series and a decision will be made on whether to recall bowler Isuru Udana after he was dropped following a poor performance in the first ODI.
INDIA
- India pulled off a hugely impressive run chase for the second successive ODI, reaching their target of 276 with three wickets remaining to seal a series win with one game to go.
- Deepak Chahar was the hero of the hour having come to the crease with his side struggling on 160/6, scoring 69 not out and going on to sharing an unbroken stand of 84 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the eighth wicket.
- Kumar shone with the ball having taken three-wickets, along with spin-bowler Yuzvendra Chahal and the all-round performance of this young Indian side means an unchanged team is expected for this third ODI.
THE PREDICTION
With the series secure, India will be looking to complete a three-match sweep in this final ODI and whilst both games have been competitive, Sri Lanka’s inability to capitalise when in a good position has ultimately cost them. Even with a fairly inexperienced team, the tourists have been fantastic and pose such a huge threat with both bat and ball. Having shown they have the ability to handle being under pressure, India’s confidence will be sky high and it’s difficult not to see them picking up a third win of the series against a Sri Lankan team minus their most promising player in Hasaranga, provided the rain doesn’t heavily interfere with play.
