PAKISTAN
- Pakistan pulled off an impressive successful run chase of 316 to win the first ODI, completing the chase in the final over with captain Babar Azam scoring an excellent 103, underpinned by half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq.
- Imam was afforded a wonderful reception by his home crowd and has carried on his excellent form with the bat from the series against Australia, justifying the faith shown in him by his skipper, the coaches and selectors.
- Abdullah Shafique will likely miss out once again with Pakistan expected to name the same team which brought them success in the first ODI with the batting well stocked.
WEST INDIES
- West Indies batted extremely well in the first ODI and a flurry of wickets in the final ten overs gave them a real chance of victory, but ultimately they were unable to close the game out.
- Both Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd came straight into the team after not playing against Netherlands with Keacy Carty and Sherman Lewis the two players to drop out, although Lewis especially could be afforded an opportunity to play in this second ODI.
- In-form all-rounder Keemo Paul has been given a late call-up and should arrive in Pakistan in time to be considered for selection on Friday.
THE PREDICTION
It is clear from the first ODI that both of these two teams contain high quality batting line-ups in the 50 over format of the game and when combined with an excellent batting track in Multan, this should once again lead to another contest in which a significant total is accumulated by the side batting first. The searing heat, particularly in the 1st innings makes things even tougher for the bowlers and fielders to consistently produce their best, another factor which lies in the favour of the batters. With this in mind, the shrewd play here is to back another high-scoring encounter and specifically a 1st innings score of over 291.5 runs.
