THE LOWDOWN

NETHERLANDS

  • Netherlands can take huge heart from their batting performance in the first ODI against Pakistan even though they were ultimately beaten, as they managed to score 298/8 chasing 315 runs to win.
  • Three Netherlands batters made half centuries in the form of Vikram Singh (65), Tom Cooper (65) and captain Scott Edwards (71 not out), but if the hosts are to stand a chance in the second ODI then they must perform just as strongly with the bat this time round.

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan will have been delighted with performances of players such as Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah in their victory on Tuesday, Naseem taking three wickets and Shadab blasting what turned out to be a crucial 48 from 28 balls batting at number 6 to help propel the tourists to a winning total, with those runs absolutely crucial.
  • Although they will be without Shaheen Shah Afridi again in this second ODI, this provides opportunity for other bowlers to once again show what they can do and why they warrant a permanent place in the side, as Naseem did last time out.

THE PREDICTION

We learnt in the first ODI that Netherlands are certainly not to be underestimated across this series and Pakistan cannot rest on their laurels here if they are obtain an unassailable series lead. Once again though, the outstanding top order that the tourists contain showed why they are such a strong unit and it will be another difficult assignment for the Dutch bowlers to prevent the likes of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman scoring significant runs. The extra pace that Pakistan offer with the ball is also crucial, as we saw in the first ODI with many Netherlands batters having not faced such speed before. The expectation is that once again, Pakistan will have simply too much quality for the hosts, but expect another competitive match rather than a thrashing.
