- Ireland’s batting wilted in Belfast this past Wednesday as they were bowled out for just 91 chasing 180 to win, which unfortunately means another series defeat for the hosts against New Zealand with a game to play.
- Losing wickets in the powerplay has been a particular fault of Ireland across this T20i series and whilst aggression is important in T20 cricket, when playing such a strong opponent they need to keep wickets in hand if they are to stand any chance of accruing a winning total whether they be setting or chasing a target.
NEW ZEALAND
- New Zealand totally outclassed their opponents last time out and have really got into their stride ahead of this final match in Belfast, as they look to finish strong before they set off to Scotland.
- It has been a memorable tour for Michael Bracewell in particular and his hat-trick in the second T20i was a standout moment for the Black Caps, whilst they will be delighted to have seen number three batter Dane Cleaver make a significant contribution with 78 not out from 55 deliveries.
THE PREDICTION
Although Ireland still have motivation in this final T20i to try and gain what would be a first win against the Black Caps across this tour, you can’t help but feel that all these recent defeats have knocked the confidence totally out of them. Previously tight matches have been replaced by more comprehensive victories for New Zealand and it’s hard to see that changing in this one. With the superior batting depth, not to mention a significantly more potent bowling attack. Any outcome other than another New Zealand win here would be a surprise.
