THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

• India levelled things up last time out in Rajkot as after being put into bat for a second successive game, their batsmen produced the goods in style as they posted 340/6 which proved too much for the tourists who were always just behind the run chase and eventually fell 36 runs short.
• Shikhar Dhawan hit an impressive 96 from 90 balls while KL Rahul dropped down to number five and smashed 80 from 52 balls to catapult them to 340 and those two along with skipper Virat Kohli were outstanding so they will hope Dhawan is passed fit after taking a blow to the ribs.
• Rohit Sharma is another injury doubt but both he and his partner Dhawan are both expected to play through the pain barrier here, while the only possible changes could be Yuzvendra Chahal coming into the side at the expense of Kuldeep Yadav if they do decide to adjust their bowling attack and Rishabh Pant if he has recovered from concussion.

AUSTRALIA

• Australia won the toss for a second match in a row and put India into bat but that decision backfired on a superb batting track, and this pitch in Bengaluru is expected to be the same so both teams may be keen to get a big total on the board to create pressure even if there is likely to be dew as the match wears on.
• Australia will not be too disheartened by the loss last time out although Aaron Finch and the selectors may reconsider their tactics if they win the toss, while they will have mild concerns over their middle order with Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner not in the best of form.
• Josh Hazlewood is an option to come into the side and they may well decide to go with the experienced and economical pace bowler ahead of Kane Richardson in this crunch deciding match.

THE PREDICTION

There really is little to choose between these two sides coming into this crunch decider in Bengaluru. India will have gained some much-needed confidence with the win in Rajkot while Australia know they can beat the hosts when on form. Both sides will know they have no real margin for error and will have to be at their best on a pitch that is likely to favour the batsmen. In a high-scoring game, the better batting side has to be favoured and while Australia have arguably the edge among the top four, India’s top six is the stronger and deeper line-up which may just be the difference here.
