BANGLADESH
- Bangladesh return to one-day action for the first time since last March when they hosted Zimbabwe and whitewashed them 3-0 but their players have played plenty of short format cricket in recent times following the domestic Bangabandhu T20 Cup competition at the back end of 2020.
- The big news is the return of former captain Shakib Al Hasan after a long-term suspension and while he does not come back as captain, the star all-rounder will boost the team from both a batting and bowling perspective.
- There is plenty of experience in the squad which looks strong although there is no place for veteran Mashrafe Mortaza, while they have called up newcomers Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud who may get their first taste of ODI action but are most likely to sit out this opening game.

- West Indies have played Test cricket since the pandemic but this three-match one-day international series represents their first action in this format since a three-match series in Sri Lanka almost a year ago.
- They have named an extremely inexperienced squad for this tour as they will be led by Jason Mohammed with Sunil Ambris vice-captain, as they offer a number of good young talents the opportunity to gain valuable experience in difficult and unfamiliar conditions in Dhaka.
- There are some familiar faces in Alzarri Joseph and Rovman Powell, but there is little other experience in the side so after good domestic and A team performances, the likes of Kavem Hodge, Kyle Mayers and Shayne Moseley will be handed opportunities to impress.
THE PREDICTION
This one-day international series between Bangladesh and West Indies promises to be a fascinating duel and it is the hosts that come in as favourites. The tourists have brought an extremely young squad that have little experience in these conditions and that will surely favour Bangladesh. The hosts have plenty of experience and quality in their ranks and they will be confident on home turf where they have a good record. Combined with the fact they have beaten the West Indies the last five times they have met and seven in their last eight, expect the home side to get off to a winning start.
