THE LOWDOWN

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

  • After a miserable last few IPL campaigns, which have ended with them bottom of the table in two of the last three years, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be desperately hoping for better this time round.
  • They will be forced to begin the tournament without their new captain in place as Aiden Markram remains on international duty, whilst fellow Proteas star Heinrich Klaasen will also miss the start of the IPL, leaving Sunrisers short on firepower.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

  • Last year’s runners-up Rajasthan Royals look well placed for another title tilt in 2023 with all bases covered in what looks a very strong squad on paper, full of world class T20i experience and skill.
  • Jos Buttler was a force of nature with the bat for the Royals and if he brings the same form into this season, that spells bad news for Rajasthan’s opponents and on the bowling front, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin all pose huge threats, although

THE PREDICTION

When taking into account that Sunrisers Hyderabad will be far from full strength in their opening match, it doesn’t bode well for them against one of the toughest opponents on paper that they will face this year. Rajasthan have assembled an excellent all-round squad since the 2021 mega auction and are in a position to build on that further in 2023. Combining explosive batting, with dangerous bowling, the Royals are well worth backing to beat SRH away from home.
