THE LOWDOWN

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

  • Rajasthan Royals put up an excellent fight against Gujarat Titans, but the power hitting of David Miller who hit Prasidh Krishna for three consecutive sixes in the final over of the match sentenced Rajasthan to defeat and this showdown with RCB in a second bid to try and reach the 2022 IPL final.
  • Jos Buttler anchored the Royals’ innings throughout, scoring 89 from 56 balls opening the batting, but it is crucial that he is afforded significant support through the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Sanju Samson, the latter scoring 47 against the Titans.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore rode the momentum of sneaking into the playoffs following a victory in their final league stage game as they overcame Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator by 14 runs after putting up a score of 207/4 batting first.
  • The hero was Rajat Paditar, who struck a brilliant unbeaten 112 from just 54 deliveries batting at number three, whilst Dinesh Karthik’s finishing abilities once again came to fore as he hit a quickfire 37 late on, underlining the strength-in-depth of this RCB batting line-up.

THE PREDICTION

The signs are suggesting that Royal Challengers Bangalore are peaking at just the right time. Their top order in particular, seem to have all found form within their most recent few games and when combined with players such as Karthik lower down, it really does bode well for them against the Royals. Buttler remains the key wicket for RCB, when taking into account his ability to almost single-handedly drive on Rajasthan with the bat whether they find themselves setting or chasing a target. Both sides are well stocked in the bowling department and the battle between mystery spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Wanindu Hasaranga should be particularly exciting. Ultimately though, the team heading into this showdown boasting superior momentum and higher confidence levels is RCB and it would be no surprise if they were to continue riding that wave crest into Ahmedabad, so back them to break Rajasthan hearts and seal their spot in Sunday’s final.
