PUNJAB KINGS
- Punjab Kings reacted strongly to their defeat against KKR with an excellent all-round performance this past Sunday which saw them dispatch reigning champions Chennai Super Kings by 54 runs in a dominating performance.
- Much has been expected of Punjab’s big-money signing Liam Livingstone who had disappointed so far in the tournament, but the English all-rounder finally came to the party against Chennai and in some style, scoring 60 from just 32 balls with two wickets to go with it and he’ll be looking to back that up with another strong performance here, whilst England teammate Jonny Bairstow may well make his first appearance for the Kings this season.
GUJARAT TITANS
- Gujarat Titans will be delighted with how they have begun the 2022 IPL, having won each of their two matches played despite many casting doubts over how they would fare in their inaugural season.
- A stacked bowling attack is serving the Titans extremely well, with the likes of pacemen Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson alongside mystery spinner Rashid Khan all incredibly effective and Gujarat will no doubt build their attack around those three stars once again in this one.
THE PREDICTION
The key to this contest will likely be how well the Gujarat Titans’ bowlers manage to restrict the Punjab Kings’ top order firepower. A performance similar to that of KKR’s bowling attack against the Kings could reap their rewards, whilst a showing mirroring that of CSK may see them heavily punished. When taking into account that Punjab are yet to show an extended spell of consistency just yet, not to mention the confidence within Gujarat’s camp will be sky high, the smart move is to back the Titans to edge this one out, although it will likely prove another very close encounter.
