THE LOWDOWN
LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS
- Lucknow Super Giants’ thumping 62-run loss at the hands of Gujarat last time out, saw the Titans leapfrog them into top spot with Lucknow’s batting the most worrying aspect of that defeat, having been bowled out for just 82 chasing 145 to win.
- Despite the manner of that loss, the Lucknow hierarchy aren’t expected to panic and make wholesale changes, but following a strong dressing down from mentor Gautam Gambhir post-match, a response is expected from the Super Giants in this match.
RAJASTHAN ROYALS
- Rajasthan Royals’ eight wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals leaves them still not assured of qualification for the playoffs and another loss here may well lead to panic stations with just one league fixture to go following this one.
- Captain Sanju Samson came in to bat at five against Delhi, with Ravichandran Ashwin batting at three and whilst Ashwin made a half-century, his knock came from 38 balls and an argument could be made that Samson could have played a similar knock facing lesser deliveries, so a question mark remains as to whether the skipper will promote himself back up the order against Lucknow.
THE PREDICTION
Both these two sides are looking for a positive reaction following a disappointing defeat and an intriguing contest is ahead. Lucknow Super Giants in particular are expected to put on a much-improved display with the bat, especially when you take into account the quality of players they have at the top of the order. Such strength-in-depth within their batting is likely to wind up the difference between these two teams with Rajasthan Royals more reliant on individual players, most notably Jos Buttler. The potential continued absence of Shimron Hetmyer following the birth of his first child is a further headache for the Royals and these factors make backing Lucknow Super Giants the shrewd play in this one.
