THE LOWDOWN

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

  • Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent upturn in form leaves them still in with a chance of reaching the playoffs, although they will have to not only win here, but win well enough to overtake fourth-placed Delhi Capitals on net-run-rate.
  • If Kolkata are to be victorious, they will have to be so without Pat Cummins, the Australian star having flown back home due to a hip injury and is set to miss the remainder of KKR’s games in the 2022 IPL.

LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS

  • Lucknow Super Giants are not yet guaranteed of their place in the top four, although it would take defeat here, Delhi to win their remaining game, an RCB victory over Gujarat Titans and a huge net-run-rate swing for Lucknow to miss out.
  • Changes may be considered for this one when taking into account that KL Rahul’s side have lost consecutive matches leading into it, particularly within the middle order.

THE PREDICTION

From a form perspective, Kolkata Knight Riders are in better shape than Lucknow Super Giants, however across the tournament as whole it is Lucknow who have proven the superior side. Despite that, don’t underestimate the momentum of a T20 team leading into the business end of a competition when so often you see a team come on strong. The destructive Andre Russell looks to have hit form at just the right time for KKR and he is a true matchwinner on his day. Despite absence of Cummins, backing the Knight Riders to beat Lucknow is well worth considering.
