THE TEAM NEWS
DELHI CAPITALS
- Delhi Capitals bounced back nicely last time out by producing a fabulous run chase against Punjab Kings as they chased down a target of 196 with six wickets and ten balls to spare on Sunday.
- The bowling attack had some struggles on a batting-friendly track but they actually pulled it round well to restrict the Kings to 195/4 but a stunning 92 from 49 balls by Shikhar Dhawan led them home comfortably in the end.
- Steve Smith came into the side for his first game of this edition and the Australian star will likely get another chance here while Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav are edging back to fitness and in contention to come into an under-strength bowling attack.
MUMBAI INDIANS
- After losing their opening game, Mumbai Indians have responded with two victories on slow pitches in Chennai which saw them post totals of just 152 and 150/5 but they managed to defend both totals by 10 and 13 runs respectively.
- The batting order has yet to really catch fire with only one half century registered in their opening three games but they have plenty of room for improvement and that will only give them more confidence that they can kick on.
- Hardik Pandya is struggling with injury still which is preventing him from bowling while they seem likely to bring back Jayant Yadav ahead of Adam Milne and go with just three overseas players and an additional slow bowler.
THE PREDICTION
This is a repeat of last year’s final and the Delhi Capitals will be eager to show they can beat Mumbai Indians after losing all four meetings against them last year. Rishabh Pant’s men were just as good as the Indians last year but they seemed to have a mental block against the eventual champions and that is something they need to quell quickly. This match offers them a great chance to do so before Mumbai get up to speed and somewhere close to their best. while they have won their last two games, the champions look a long way from their best right now still especially with the bat. They will likely raise their game here knowing that the Capitals figure to be one of their main rivals once again this season. The Capitals batting is strong but the bowling is below par so this could well be where the game is won or lost. The Capitals have some inexperienced bowlers and they could struggle against such an experienced side. The marginal edge goes to the Mumbai Indians to extend their winning run against the Delhi Capitals.
