DELHI CAPITALS
- Delhi Capitals fell agonisingly short in their clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore last time out as they lost by a solitary run when it looked like Shimron Hetmyer’s superb hitting was going to lead them to victory.
- The performance of Hetmyer was the biggest positive in that game as there are signs of more of their key men and batsmen finding some form so that will only benefit them further in the coming matches.
- Despite the absence of Ravi Ashwin, the team and specifically the bowling unit remains strong, there is just a question mark as to when they will decide to unleash Anrich Nortje into the side.
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
- In what was arguably a make-or-break game for the Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign, they managed to halt a four-game losing streak last time out to ease past Punjab Kings with five wickets and 20 balls to spare.
- It was their best bowling performance of the IPL this year with all bowlers contributing well to restrict their opponents to a miserable 123/9 but they will need to be at their best once again here against a strong Capitals’ batting line-up.
- Sunil Narine’s struggles with the bat continue as IPL bowlers have clearly worked him out now with just ten runs in his three matches but he likely keeps his place in the team due to his excellent spin bowling which is playing a key role for them.
THE PREDICTION
This clash between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders promises to be an intriguing affair with the Capitals one of the best teams in the tournament but coming off a defeat while KKR come off a win which will give them a much-needed boost. The Capitals clearly have the better team and greater depth in their eleven but there is no doubting the matchwinning abilities in the KKR ranks. Despite their win last time out, they still heavily relied on Eoin Morgan this time as they otherwise still looked somewhat fragile. Barring some more individual fireworks, the Capitals all-round strength should win out and make the difference here.
