THE LOWDOWN

DELHI CAPITALS

  • The Delhi Capitals come into this match four points behind the top four and the playoff places. They have lost more than they have won this season after a 15-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals in their most recent outing.
  • That loss to the in-form Royals saw Jos Buttler score his third century of this year’s IPL and Delhi conceded 222 whilst taking just two wickets. Given that five of their six bowlers used in that match went at over ten an over with the only player going under ten, Shardul Thakur, being hit for 9.67, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Capitals change their bowling lineup.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

  • Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated by the Gujarat Titans in their most recent outing at the weekend. KKR came close to hauling in a target of 157 but the final over wicket of Andre Russell put an end to their hopes of victory. That was their fourth successive defeat as they stumble after a strong start to the competition.
  • Even in their most recent victory against the Mumbai Indians in early April, KKR have been reliant on magical middle-order moments. That match, for example, featured a 14-ball half-century from Pat Cummins to drag them to a remarkable win. Since that win, they have had four different opening partnerships. Aaron Finch is expected to return to the lineup for this one.

THE PREDICTION

These two faced off in mid-April with Delhi thumping Kolkata by 44 runs. The Capitals scored 215-5 before bowling their opponents out for 171. A top order that includes Dave Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant is always likely to score big and, given that they are likely to improve on their most recent bowling performance, they will be confident of victory - especially against an out-of-form KKR side. Delhi should win this one.
