THE TEAM NEWS
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
- Chennai Super Kings successfully made it two wins from two since the resumption of the Indian Premier League after toppling Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets and they currently sit second-place in the table only behind Delhi Capitals.
- All-rounder Sam Curran is available for selection in this match following the completion of his quarantine period and he could come into this side, although Chennai may wish to stick with the same XI who successfully beat RCB.
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
- Kolkata Knight Riders like Chennai, boast two wins in two games in the second phase of the IPL, most recently overcoming a strong Mumbai Indians unit comfortably, winning by seven wickets
- Whilst the batting form of Eoin Morgan is a worry for KKR in their middle order, his captaincy has made up for this, although West Indian powerhouse Andre Russell could come in to bat higher up the order here.
THE PREDICTION
This has all the makings of a classic between two sides in excellent form. In terms of the overall tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders need the victory more so than Chennai Super Kings, who sit six points above them in the table. Each team is packed with international experience and quality with both bat and ball, alongside two excellent skippers in MS Dhoni and Morgan. However, the difference could well prove the respective middle orders. Chennai Super Kings boast more strength-in-depth with the bat down their order, with hitters such as Ravindra Jadeja, Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo all capable of match-winning knocks even if the top order fails. Apart from Andre Russell, KKR do not contain such firepower within their arsenal and for that reason, Chennai Super Kings are expected to narrowly edge this one.
