THE PREDICTION
The first Test between India and Australia was worryingly one-sided from the series’ perspective, as the hosts crushed Pat Cummins’ men within three days. Aside from Todd Murphy on debut, it was a fixture to forget for Australia, whose batters couldn’t handle the India spinners in full flow. The worrying thing is that it’s hard to see them magically recovering here in Delhi. Ultimately the India batters are significantly stronger players against spin and on another turning track, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja should once again shine.
You would expect at least more of a challenge from Australia this time round, especially when taking into account the depth of their batting line-up. However, over five days against the world class spin of India, any outcome other than a second Test win for the hosts would be considered a surprise, putting them on the brink of retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
