THE PREDICTION
Both these two sides failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the Caribbean Premier League in 2020 and both will be hoping for vastly improved campaigns this time round. Barbados Royals have rebranded from their original Barbados Tridents name and with Jason Holder as skipper, they look a good squad on paper having recruited a couple of new players off the back of their form playing in this summer’s T20 Blast and men’s Hundred tournament in England, with explosive Kiwi batter Glenn Phillips and Birmingham Bears leg-spin bowler Jake Lintott joining the side. However, South African Chris Morris has opted out of the competition for personal reasons. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have undergone a large change in personnel, losing the likes of Anrich Nortje, Wanindu Hasaranga, Rassie van der Dussen and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. In their place, the Patriots have brought in Fawad Ahmed, Asif Ali, Ravi Bopara and Paul van Meekeren, although Bopara like Lintott for the Royals will not feature in this match due to his T20 Blast commitments back in England.
It could well be another year of struggle once again for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this year’s CPL and they will desperately need to embed their new players into the squad as soon as possible. Just one win from ten games last season tells its own story and things don’t look like improving straight away. Barbados Royals have recruited well, their squad already contains a strong backbone and Holder’s men should ultimately prove too strong for the Patriots.
