THE LOWDOWN

SYDNEY THUNDER

  • Sydney Thunder currently hover just inside the play-off places, so this match is a big one from their perspective which they can ill-afford to lose.
  • Other franchise commitments mean that the Thunder will be without opener Alex Hales for the rest of the competition, a huge blow as the England 2022 T20 World Cup winner had been in brilliant form for them.

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • Perth Scorchers’ comprehensive eight-wicket win over Brisbane Heat took them back to the top of the men’s BBL table and as it stands, they are one of just two teams with a positive net-run-rate.
  • No side have lost less times than the Scorchers so far in this season’s competition with seven of their nine matches played ending in victory with only two defeats.

THE PREDICTION

This should be a stiff examination for Perth Scorchers away from home to a team who have already beaten them earlier in the tournament. However, that was a Thunder side with the likes of Alex Hales within their ranks and he won’t be around for this one. Despite this, having David Warner coming in to replace him at the top of the order is a big fillet for the hosts with the Australian international star set to make his first BBL appearance since 2013. It may take time for Warner to adapt to life back in the BBL and the Scorchers represent a trial by fire for his first game. Ultimately, the overall strength-in-depth which Perth have in their favour makes them worth backing to secure a narrow victory.
