THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE RENEGADES

  • Following two consecutive losses, Melbourne Renegades are under pressure to bounce back here with home advantage being in their favour, but have their work cut out against the undefeated Perth Scorchers.
  • The Renegades will be hugely boosted by the return of Aaron Finch in this game, the T20 World Cup winning Australian captain will provide some much-needed firepower at the top of the order, alongside some crucial experience in the field to help guide the younger Renegades players.

PERTH SCORCHERS

  • A comfortable 42-run win for Perth Scorchers against Hobart Hurricanes extended their unbeaten start to this season’s BBL and took them to the top of the table, having won all four of their games played.
  • Wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis’ return to the team alongside Australian international all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has strengthened the Scorchers even further and whilst Inglis was dismissed for 0 against the Hurricanes, he’ll be desperate to make up for that in this match.

THE PREDICTION

Melbourne Renegades have played just once at Marvel Stadium so far this season and that match saw them emerge victorious against Adelaide Strikers, so this will not be an easy encounter for the Scorchers, who will also have to deal with the return of key player Finch for the hosts. However, the strength-in-depth of the Renegades’ batting is inferior to that of Perth, who can call upon the likes of Laurie Evans at six and Ashton Agar at seven, a clear indication of just how deep their bat. Combine this with all the momentum being in their favour and a bowling attack which mixes experience with quality through players such as Andrew Tye, Tymal Mills and Australian international Marsh, it is expected that Perth Scorchers will continue their winning run here, although they will likely need to dismiss Finch early on to do so.
