THE LOWDOWN

BRISBANE HEAT

  • Brisbane Heat claimed just their second victory of BBL|10 as they shocked reigning champions Sydney Sixers with a solid all-round effort last time out and they will hope that is the catalyst for an improved run of form.
  • The Sixers tried to put their foot down from the off but they came unstuck with the loss of regular wickets when James Vince fell with the score going from 79/1 in the ninth over to 165/8 at the end of the innings.
  • Mark Steketee and Mujeeb Ur Rahman were superb with the ball and with opener Max Bryant setting the tone with 40 from 23 deliveries, the Heat were able to get the job done thanks to Lewis Gregory’s late knock of 31* from 16 balls securing a four-wicket success.

SYDNEY THUNDER

  • Sydney Thunder now look like the team to beat in the competition after they made it five straight wins by defeating Melbourne Renegades with their batting once again coming to the fore in a rain-affected contest.
  • With the game reduced to 17 overs apiece, the Thunder were underwhelming with the ball as they struggled to restrict the Renegades and they were able to set a target of 167 from their efforts with the bat.
  • Despite that, Alex Hales made his intentions clear as he whacked 45 from just 19 balls and he was ably backed-up by Usman Khawaja who finished on 48* when the rain brought the game to an end after 12 overs with the Thunder seven runs ahead of the DLS par score.

THE PREDICTION

Sydney Thunder have produced the goods of late and on a bat-friendly wicket at the Gabba, that could spell trouble for the hosts. Alex Hales is seeing the ball like a beach ball at the present and he will relish taking to the crease on this track. The Thunder have dominated with the bat in this tournament so far and that could well be the case again with their fearsome line-up likely to cause major troubles for Brisbane Heat. The home side shocked Sydney Sixers in their latest contest and they will need to produce another big display if they are to back that up but with the Thunder looking so consistent at present, it is hard to see them slipping up here. The Sydney outfit will also hope to receive a boost by being able to recall paceman Adam Milne after an ankle issue but even if he is still sidelined, the Thunder should still be able to outscore their opponents.
