THE LOWDOWN

GAZI GROUP CHATTOGRAM

• Chattogram were stunned on Monday by Khulna who overpowered them by 47 runs after posting a stunning 210/7 so after winning the group stage in dominant fashion, they now have to win here or face elimination.
• Their bowling attack fell to pieces under the pressure of the onslaught from the Khulna batsmen and while some were smashed to all parts, even veteran star Mustafizur Rahman lost his nerve bowling two beamers and being forced out of the bowling attack.
• After Sanjit Saha came in and proved expensive going for 50 off his four overs, he is one player that could well be dropped with Ziaur Rahman a candidate to potentially come back into the side.

BEXIMCO DHAKA

• Dhaka reached the second qualifier after beating Barishal by nine runs on Monday but that match was not without drama as skipper Mushfiqur Rahim threatened his own team-mates including Nasum Ahmed following some questionable fielding.
• The one particular moment where Mushfiqur threatened to punch his team-mate came from one of several poor moments in the field for Dhaka and despite the win, there have to be question marks over the morale in the camp coming into this game.
• The bowling attack continues to be key for them as they held Barishal short of the par target but their batting will have to improve here against a strong Chattogram team and they will need their top order to do better than last time after the top three combined for just 13 runs.

THE PREDICTION

Chattogram’s defeat on Monday will have created some doubt in their minds after such an impressive group stage but they will be confident of beating this Dhaka side in this second qualifier. Ultimately Chattogram have far more quality with both bat and ball which should be enough to see them through to the final but they will have to bowl much better than they did against Khulna. Dhaka do not possess the firepower to put them under as much pressure though and expect Chattogram to ease to a comfortable victory here.
