THE LOWDOWN
MINISTER GROUP RAJSHAHI
- Minister Group Rajshahi come into this game knowing that a victory will virtually assure them of a place in the knockout phase thanks to their better net run rate in comparison to Fortune Barishal but they have a tough task against Chattogram.
- Rajshahi have now lost their last five games after winning their first two and while there were positives from their last match with Barishal, their confidence and belief will arguably be even more dented after failing to defend 220/7 in that game.
- Not one of their bowlers have an economy rate of less than 10 in that game and while skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s stunning 109 was unquestionably a positive for them, there remain plenty of question marks especially against a quality team like Chattogram.
GAZI GROUP CHATTOGRAM
- Gazi Group Chattogram have comfortably been the best team in the tournament during the group stage having won six of their seven matches so far but while most of their matches have been comfortable wins, they only managed to beat Rajshahi by one run in their previous meeting.
- Talented youngster Mahmudul Hasan Joy has forged his way into the side in recent games and has contributed 26, 24 and 31 in his three innings so he should keep his place in the side as he has bolstered the batting.
- It would not be a surprise if they decided to rest key man Mustafizur Rahman ahead of the knockout phase especially given the busy run of games and they already have top spot secured as they ultimately have nothing to play for here.
THE PREDICTION
All the pressure is on Rajshahi coming into this crunch game as they are the ones that have to win to reach the knockout while Chattogram have already qualified in top spot. They have lost their last five and the belief in their camp is particularly low so it seems unlikely they can reverse this losing trend against the best side in the tournament. Their best chance will come if Chattogram ease off the gas, show some complacency and potentially rest some of their key men. That said, the group leaders are flying with confidence and even if they do rotate, players are keen to impress and retain momentum going into the knockouts and they can inflict another loss on the struggling Rajshahi men.
