THE TEAM NEWS
AUSTRALIA
- Australia were undone by some superb hitting by Hardik Pandya as they lost the second T20 to India on Sunday to lose the series but they will be keen to avoid the whitewash here in the third and final match.
- There is an outside chance that Aaron Finch will be available again after injury so the captain could return to open the batting and it could be at the expense of D’Arcy Short who has struggled in his two innings so far.
- They could make more changes but it seems unlikely they will risk bringing in the likes of Josh Hazelwood for a dead rubber while Alex Carey and Nathan Lyon could potentially come in if they do rotate.
INDIA
- India produced a superb run chase on Sunday to chase down a 195 target in the final over with six wickets to spare as excellent contributions by Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and then Hardik Pandya sealed the series for them.
- On a track in Sydney that favoured batsmen, they did well to keep the hosts to under 200 and that was thanks in no small part to Thangarasu Natarajan who produced excellent figures of 2/20 from his four overs with another impressive display.
- With the series sealed, they could decide to make some rotations but it is unlikely they will bring in Bumrah or Shami at this stage when they can rest them ahead of upcoming Test action, while they will be keen to keep this T20 form going as they have yet to lose in this format in 2020.
THE PREDICTION
Despite India having sealed this series after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead on Sunday, this has been a highly competitive series so far and both teams will be just as motivated in this final T20 in Sydney. Neither team is expected to rotate their team much if at all for this final game and it should be just as close as the first two games. India have had the edge in the bowling attacks in the first two games and while there is little to choose between the batting orders, the hosts remain weakened without some key men. With confidence sky high, India can go on and seal the whitewash here in another high-scoring match.
