THE PREDICTION
Sri Lanka overcame Bangladesh by two wickets in what was essentially a knockout match in the group stage to advance into the Super Fours, where they are now set to rematch Afghanistan who overcame them comprehensively earlier in the tournament. The bowling attack of Afghanistan has been excellent so far in the competition both with pace and spin, utilising the conditions in the UAE to perfection. Sri Lanka struggled desperately against them last time out with the bat and desperately putting in a brilliant effort against Bangladesh, it will be a huge ask for them to match that against stronger opposition. However, Afghanistan’s batters are not used to playing in a fixture of such magnitude and will be significantly tested in a way that they weren’t in the group stage. Expect a low scoring match here, but in terms of the outcome, the form team in Afghanistan may just do enough to edge it.
