THE LOWDOWN
Surrey were hammered on Monday night against the Essex Eagles in their first match without their England players. Jason Roy and the Curran brothers, Sam and Tom, have returned to England duty and that gave way to an implosion in which the Londoners were bowled out for 118 and that was chased down by Essex in just 15.3 overs with eight wickets in hand. Somerset come into this on the back of back-to-back abandonments due to rain against Glamorgan and Sussex but prior to that they had won their first match of the season against Kent. It has been stop-start for the west-country county’s batting lineup with three successive scores of 185+ but two of those were below par until they hit 200 against Kent.
THE PREDICTION
That 204-7 score for Somerset against the Kent Spitfires was down to an excellent middle-order performance from captain Tom Abell and youngster Lewis Goldsworthy. Both will be involved in this one against a Surrey team that, as mentioned, are without two key bowlers and will be reliant on Dan Moriarty to take wickets and preserve runs. However, Somerset have lost just three wickets to spin in the Blast this season. The lack of those England players will make Somerset the slight favourites for this one.
