THE LOWDOWN
Northamptonshire Steelbacks’ approach to Twenty20 cricket has been dubbed akin to ‘moneyball’ given their attempts to maximise relatively cheap or undiscovered talent. They reached the knockout stages of last year’s competition but were battered by Gloucestershire in the quarter-finals. They are up against a Worcestershire Rapids side that managed to win just two of their ten group stage matches last season and began this year’s campaign with a remarkable tie against the Notts Outlaws. An unbeaten half-century by Jake Libby lifted the Rapids to over 150 before a wonderful bowling performance restricted the Outlaws to level scores.
THE PREDICTION
Neither side will be completely sure of their plans throughout this competition just yet but the visitors are a step closer following that remarkable finish to the match on Wednesday. They will also be extremely pleased so in a positive mindset and it is unlikely that Moeen Ali will miss out with the bat in consecutive matches so, with that said, Worcestershire Rapids would be the favoured side in this one.
