THE LOWDOWN
Simon Harmer’s Essex Eagles began their campaign with an impressive three-wickey victory at Somerset on Wednesday. Chasing 186, Jimmy Neesham led the way with a fast half-century as the Eagles achieved their target with seven balls to go. They come up against a Hampshire Hawks side that fell well short of their target of 177 against Kent by being held to just 138-9. Good starts from James Vince, D’Arcy Short and Joe Weatherley were eventually dismissed as the Hawks collapsed to a low total and disappointing defeat.
THE PREDICTION
If the opening matches are anything to go by then Essex will be very confident of a comfortable victory especially at home. Simon Harmer will be confident of drying up the Hawks runs whilst a strong middle order gives Essex a chance in any match. The only batsman that Harmer says he isn’t 100% certain of getting out is James Vince so perhaps some runs for the Hampshire captain but it is unlikely to be enough runs to help them avoid defeat in this one.
