THE TEAM NEWS
QUETTA GLADIATORS
- Quetta Gladiators suffered extreme disappointment in their return to Pakistan Super League action, losing by ten wickets to Islamabad United after being bowled out for a measly 133.
- When considering the strength of the Quetta batting lineup on paper, it made their effort even more disappointing with the likes of Andre Russell, Faf du Plessis and Sarfaraz Ahmed all failing, being dismissed for scores of 13, 5 and 2 respectively.
- The bowling didn’t cover themselves in glory either, Islamabad chasing the target down in exactly ten overs and changes may be made to the Quetta lineup, when considering that fast bowler Naseem Shah was hit for 19 off his one over and Khurram Shehzad going for 29 from two overs.
PESHAWAR ZALMI
- Peshawar Zalmi failed to chase down 170 in their last match against Lahore Qalandars, finishing 160/8 after their 20 overs to leave them on six points after six matches with three wins and three defeats.
- The experienced Shoaib Malik hit an impressive 73 from 48 balls, but it didn’t prove enough with spin-bowler Rashid Khan weaving his magic upon the Peshawar batters, dismissing five of them.
- What was encouraging for Peshawar was that five of their six bowlers used vs Lahore took at least one wicket in the match, which should bode well heading into their next match knowing that they have plenty of wicket taking options.
THE PREDICTION
Quetta Gladiators proved why they are rooted firmly to the bottom of the Pakistan Super League against Islamabad and have now lost five of their six matches in the tournament. Confidence within the Quetta camp must be extremely low and Peshawar Zalmi may be set to take advantage. Against a bowling attack who leaked runs last time out, the Zalmi batters should be able to back up the likes of Shoaib Malik in this match and ultimately secure enough runs to win this match whether they be setting a target or chasing.
