THE PREDICTION
Despite putting up a valiant fight to save themselves, the Yorkshire batters could not hold out on Day 4 and fell to a defeat in the Roses match against Lancashire by an innings and 79 runs. The loss saw Yorkshire fall 24 points behind the Red Rose in Group 3 and following Northamptonshire’s win last week that sees them trail the White Rose by just two points, Yorkshire must beat lowly Sussex here if they are to remain inside the top two. Ben Brown’s side’s loss vs Northamptonshire last time out was their fourth of the season and leaves their prospects of finishing in the top two incredibly slim.
Yorkshire were unable to field IPL players Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan vs Lancashire and will be desperate to have the two batters back for this match, however they have not yet been approved to play by the ECB. Despite this, Yorkshire with home advantage in their favour should still prove too strong for a Sussex side who are winless over the course of their last five County Championship matches and without key fast bowlers Jofra Archer (injury) and Ollie Robinson (England duty).
