THE PREDICTION
Somerset face an uphill battle if they are to win their first ever County Championship after being heavily beaten by an innings and 16 runs against Nottinghamshire at Taunton. Their batting will be a huge cause for concern with no Somerset player scoring a half-century over the course of both their innings and this doesn’t bode well for them, when considering that they’ll be playing this match at a typically bowler friendly Scarborough in September. Yorkshire meanwhile, impressed significantly against Hampshire last time out, although they failed to take the final wicket of the Hampshire second innings that would have secured victory and quicker bowlers such as Ben Coad and Matt Fisher will confident of utilising conditions to cause their opponents big problems.
Key to this contest is likely to be the experience of Gary Ballance, who played a huge part for the White Rose against Hampshire with a brilliant century. When also factoring in the in-form duo of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Harry Brook either side of Ballance in the batting order, then this Yorkshire side have all the tools to inflict further punishment upon a Somerset bowling attack put to the sword by Nottinghamshire, so the hosts have to be favoured for victory in this one.
