THE PREDICTION
An end-to-end game at Emerald Headingley in the third round of County Championship fixtures saw Yorkshire secure their second victory of the season in a fantastic encounter with Sussex that twisted and turned throughout, with the hosts ultimately bowling Ben Brown’s side out for 186 when chasing 235 to win by 48 runs. Currently six points behind Group 3 leaders Lancashire, the White Rose will be desperate for a second successive County Championship win as they host Northamptonshire back at Emerald Headingley. However, they face a side off the back of a wonderful seven-wicket victory over Glamorgan after a tremendous 185 not out from opening batter Ricardo Vasconcelos provided the foundation for them to chase down 355 runs.
Most pleasing for Yorkshire last time out was the performance of young England international bowler Dom Bess, as the spinner recorded a six-wicket haul in the fourth innings against Sussex. Bess compliments a strong bowling attack and that is matched in the batting department with the return of Gary Ballance also most welcome from a Yorkshire perspective. Despite such an impressive win in their most recent game, Yorkshire will provide a far tougher challenge for Northamptonshire than Glamorgan and with a far stronger all-round squad on paper, the hosts are expected to build on their recent good form and record a third successive County Championship victory in this one.
