THE PREDICTION
Despite the best efforts of the weather to save them, Worcestershire collapsed to a dismal innings and 170-run defeat against Nottinghamshire last time out in what was a truly pitiful effort from Joe Leach’s side with the bat, which saw them dismissed for 80 and 150 respectively. Here, they look to bounce back against Derbyshire who like Worcestershire have failed to record a single victory this season and following their rain affected draw against Durham, Billy Godleman’s men remain at the bottom of the Group 1.
New Road has proven somewhat of a graveyard for bowlers so far this season with the pitches totally lifeless and a batsman’s paradise. This has made results very difficult to come by and both of Worcestershire’s two home matches so far have ended in draws. Whilst the rain is expected to stay away, both sets of bowlers are likely to toil here and Derbyshire will be without overseas fast bowler Billy Stanlake after the Australian was ruled out for the season with a stress fracture to his back. Ultimately, a huge question mark remains as to whether either of these two teams are good enough to take 20 wickets in this match to force victory and therefore, a draw has to be favoured.
