THE PREDICTION
Nottinghamshire continued their excellent run of form last weekend after making three County Championship wins on the bounce by thrashing Worcestershire by an innings and 170 runs despite losing a huge proportion of playing time to the rain. Now sitting clear at the top of Group 1, victory here at Edgbaston would put Steven Mullaney’s side within touching distance of Division One. Warwickshire, remain well in the hunt for a top two place having secured a respectable draw at Chelmsford vs Essex in their most recent match. The Bears currently sit ten points adrift of the second-placed champions, but have would could be a crucial game in hand.
Both these two teams will be forced to make changes here due to the loss of their England test players. Nottinghamshire will badly miss bowler Stuart Broad, who has been magnificent for them so far this season, whilst Warwickshire will be without pace bowler Olly Stone and opening batsman Dominic Sibley. However, the hosts could be boosted by the availability of all-rounder Chris Woakes subject to England approval. Warwickshire already boast a win over Notts in the reverse fixture at Trent Bridge and are more than capable of doing so again. The visitors though, have looked unstoppable recently and will take some stopping. On what should be a good pitch for batting at Edgbaston, we could see both teams record high first innings scores which may set the tone for this match to finish a draw. With eight points awarded for the draw, this outcome certainly wouldn’t prove a bad result for either side with Durham and Essex playing each other in the same round of fixtures.
