THE PREDICTION
The home team come into this on the back of a 48-run defeat against Yorkshire in which they lost their first five wickets in the run chase to Dominic Bess. They fell to 186 all-out as they conceded their first defeat of the season. The form of opening batsmen Aaron Thomason and Tom Haines will encourage the home team; especially as both enjoyed good innings’ in their opening day draw against Lancashire. Haines, in particular, surpassed 150 in that match. These two played out a weather-affected draw to kick off the season at Old Trafford but Lancs’ had edged the contest until the snow came.
Lancashire will be buoyed by an impressive start to the season in which they have dispatched both Northamptonshire and Kent with strong fourth day bowling performances after dominating both games. They will remain without the injured James Anderson but have welcomed Liam Livingstone back into the squad following his return from the IPL and he could come in for the out-of-form Rob Jones in the middle-order. Bolstering the batting lineup whilst maintaining a strong bowling attack with the in-form leg-spin Matt Parkinson is encouraging Red Rose supporters ahead of the rest of the campaign.
Given the form of the visitors and the lack of outright consistency throughout the batting order for Sussex, Lancashire will be confident of making it three successive wins before the roses match against Yorkshire next week.
