THE PREDICTION

Both these two counties topped their respective conference group to take their place in Division One. However, Somerset will begin with significantly more points due to their superior results against the Division One who they competed against in the same conference group. Nottinghamshire will be hit by the loss of key opener Haseeb Hameed, who is on England test duty whilst another England player in bowler Stuart Broad is injured. Somerset however, will have spinner Jack Leach available, although fast bowler Craig Overton is also with England.

Nottinghamshire’s top order batting is proven a key factor in them reaching this stage of the County Championship, however that stable line-up will have to be altered in order to compensate for the loss of Hameed, which may play into Somerset’s hands. No doubt a pitch will be prepared to suit the hosts’ strengths at Taunton and when taking into the quality of Somerset’s bowling, they should be able to take 20 Nottinghamshire wickets for a relatively small number of runs, ultimately leading them to victory.
