THE PREDICTION
Rain played havoc with the latest round of County Championship fixtures, but fortunately for both Northamptonshire and Lancashire, neither side were in action. The two teams lock horns in Northampton in what is an important fixture for both in Group three. Currently unbeaten after five games, Lancashire know that just avoiding defeat here would be enough for them to overtake Yorkshire and return to top spot in the group ahead of the first Roses encounter of the summer. Their chances of victory could be boosted by the return of wicketkeeper batsman Jos Buttler to the red ball side, providing the England star has completed his period of quarantine following his early return from the IPL.
For Northamptonshire, victory would put them right back in the race to finish in the top two and qualify for Division One in September. They also come into this fixture off the back of an excellent innings and 120-run win over Sussex last time out. However, Lancashire will prove a much tougher opponent, who have all basis covered with both bat and ball. Leg-spin bowler Matt Parkinson is in excellent form, whilst runs have been flowing at the top of the order and the all-round strength of the Red Rose is expected to wind up too strong for Northamptonshire in this one, leading the visitors to a fourth County Championship win.
